Dr Hal Levison Earliest Formation of the Planets

I watched a programme on Discovery Channel in which Dr Levison appeared.

His website is at:

As far as I remember this is a summary of what he was saying:

He has a theory on how the planets formed in pairs.

He describes how Jupiter and Saturn once had similar orbits and acted as one body. He considers this a one off event.

He noticed the connectedness of Uranus and Neptune

I differ somewaht from Dr Levison in that I consider his papers as defining a CONTINUING process. That is he is describing the RULES for early planetary formation but these rules do not just stop once the Solar System is 'formed' or exists as today.

I DO believe that Jupiter and Saturn can switch orbits again (very rarely I admit).

In fact Dr Levison did not claim (at least on tv) that Jupiter and Saturn had switched orbits. I have found it difficult to access the information I am looking for at his site as he has a lot of published work. If you are more successful please tell us on our forum. Thanks
